Apologies for the delay in posts. Like most jobs, I suppose, the art gallery world has distinct seasons that are marked by the important art auctions and art fairs in each city. For London Old Master paintings dealers, the busiest season is July, when we have the Masterpiece Fair (and several others), Old Masters auctions, and various themed weeks in a row. After college, unable to find a decent job during the recession with my highly practical Art History and French degrees, I moved to Paris. As one does. In actual fact, I had gotten a decent job teaching English in French primary schools through TAPIF (a program I still recommend to French-speaking graduates looking for work or thinking about travelling). My year there was fantastic: I worked hard, met wonderful people, ate amazing food, perfected my French, and travelled. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Continue reading

Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.
Okay, so maybe no one thought I was dead, but my apologies for the radio silence. I’m afraid the real world feels the need to intrude from time to time, but fortunately the demands of my professional life have only benefitted my baking life: as an avid stress baker, I’ve gone full throttle in the kitchen over the past few weeks and am excited to share the recipes that have kept me sane (and full!).

This week Scotland made history by hosting one of the most important referendum votes in modern political history. Of course, if you turned on the TV today, you probably heard that the referendum wasn’t a complete success. But yet! While the Scottish National Party wrings its hands and Alex Salmond bids adieu, this American Expat is relishing the opportunity to continue living in a United Kingdom that includes Scotland.
